"It's not always the spicy foods you eat that cause ulcers ..." That was the opening line of the VNR on my clients ability to diagnostically test for H. pylori bacteria. To add interest, they conducted their test on pre-Columbian mummies and we created the VNR. The only change made by the team from ABC was swapping out of the voice talent we included for the network newscasters voice. Again, with no scripting changes.
I am unaware of other examples of this happening. Typically news outlets like to insert their own spin or thumbprint on a story and I (as the agency producer) keep my fingers crossed that the story keeps the "meat" of what we were hoping to communicate on behalf of our client. My track record with VNRs is good, yet in this instance, I "knocked it out of the park!"
